They Almost Got Me
The other day when I opened my mailbox what did I find. An envelope with a check for $4990.00. Cool just what I needed what do I have to do. Nice looking check with watermark from National Dentex Corporation of 526 Boston Post Road Wayland, MA 01778 Made out from Fleet Bank Of Massachusetts, 800 Blyston St Boston MA 02199 Here is basically how the scam works. The letter included with the check says it is from SurveyPro Inc 2110 Fountain Ave, Ste 80, New York, NY 10040
Tel: 519-991-8150 Fax 519-488-1117 Don't worry I am only putting all of this above detailed information so the search engines will pick this up and prevent someone from being ripped off for $5000. The Letter instructs me to deposit the check and wait for it to clear. After it clears I am to take out the money and go to MoneyGram and send $4440 to Dorothy (Your Last Name) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Then I am to fill the form stating how the service was at the MoneyGram Store and fax the paperwork in. I am then to go Home Depot, Gap, JC Penney, Wal-Mart, K-mart, or Sears and spend $100 while evaluating the customer service. I get to keep the $100 worth of products that I purchase from one of these stores. What is left over is $300 that is my probationary pay for working as a secret mystery shopper. Here is the way the scam works. I go and deposit the check in my account, my bank doesn't want to hold up the funds so they will credit my account in a day or two.
I go pull the money out of the account and go to MoneyGram and send the money to my so called relative Dorothy (my last name) in Montreal. In the mean time someone anywhere in the world in one of these fly by night MoneyGram places gets in with his buddy to get the money.
Now in a month or so the bank would call me up and say that check didn't clear and you owe us $5000. I would say what, well maybe I can get the money back from moneygram. NOT. Someone over in Nigeria or Russia it doesn't matter named Dorothy picked up the money. The scam could have very easily worked because I probably have signed up at a survey site in the past 6 months who know. Bottom line I didn't cash the check and hope this article helps someone out there to hold onto their money a little longer. Further research can be found by searching for moneygram scam in google, or survey pro inc linked is an article in ripoff report stating how someone else got hit with this scam and researched it. |
